Grant Coburn, a sophomore on the cross country team, has quickly become the best runner on the team. He has been running for a long time, which has helped build his success.

“I started running cross country in sixth grade at Raymond Park Middle school,” Coburn said.

Along the way, Coburn has built up a big wall of support for himself.

“My teammates have inspired me the most just because I can learn something from each of them,” Coburn said.

During his cross country career, he has experienced some great moments with his friends and teammates.

“My favorite cross country moment is just whenever myself or my teammates run a PR. It’s just a lot of happiness that comes with that,” Coburn said.

Because of moments like these, he has formed great relationships with his teammates.

“Grant is an extremely hard worker on the track and in the classroom. Ever since he joined the team in 2020, he has made an immediate impact through his knowledge and ability in running. I’m very proud to call Grant my teammate and brother,” senior Ethan Carter said.

Grant Coburn, who has always been on the better part of teams, just recently realized how impressive his times were.

“I realized that while I was doing freshman county, when I placed ninth and broke 18 [minutes] for the first time, I realized that I was beating some of the people that would beat me in middle school. So I realized I was just getting better,” Coburn said.

He makes sure to put the same amount of work in for cross country as he does in the classroom, which his 4.124 GPA shows.

“Grant works hard at everything he does. Whether that be sports or school, he works to be the best in any setting and that is showcased by his performances on the track and in the classroom. I’m extremely proud to call Grant my brother and it’s been amazing running alongside a guy like him for the past two years,” senior Xavier Wills said.

Grant has been running for a long time now and continues to enjoy it every day.

“I enjoy running cross country because it’s a sport that almost anyone can do, and because it’s very easy to see the progress that you make over time,” Coburn said.

Grant has goals set for this year and they are why he is motivated to get better and better.

“A personal goal of mine is to make it to state and a team goal I have is for the team to make it to semi-state,” Coburn said.

Overall, Grant Coburn has proven to be a wonderful student-athlete, and hopes to keep that up for the years to come.

“I would say that [Grant] is a very strong and dedicated individual. He’s more than just a star athlete, he is also a[n] academic all-star as well,” senior Tyler Nelson said.
