The girl’s volleyball team is very lucky to have Imani Stokes as a player and as a friend.

“I’ve played volleyball for six years. The journey to get where I am now has been tough, but now I see the diamond in the rough,” senior Imani Stokes said.

Her spot on the team is middle blocker and her number is 22.  She is one of the coach’s top players. Stokes is a star herself, but a person who inspires and keeps her motivated is Rico Nasty.

“She’s my idol because nothing stops her from being her and I hope to show that confidence one day,” Stokes said.

Stokes made sure to be prepared for big games or any game in general.

“Something positive is the growth. I didn’t get the way I am by just practicing once a day. I played club, I worked out, watched films, and watched others play,” Stokes said.

Here is something she wants to say to her coach before she leaves.

“Coach Dae, you have made such an impact on me. You’re probably the coolest person I’ve ever met and strive to be like you. You never gave up on me and the team and stuck by us in our toughest times. And for that, I am grateful to have met you,”  Stokes said.

She also wanted to mention that as she is leaving, she knows that the program is going to still be great.

“This program is in good hands and I know it will grow once I leave and that’s the sad part. Getting to see new players and new girls follow the steps I take will make my journey complete. That is something really sad about growing up leaving something that means so much to you,” Stokes said.
