The Warren girls soccer team season is officially over for this year, wrapping up the season 0-13. Even though they did not have the season they might have hoped for, they tried and did their best.
Additionally, it was also Coach Mauer’s first year as the girl’s soccer coach, so the team was in a season of rebuilding, growing, and doing their best each step of the way.
“This was our first year as a team, and the coaching staff was proud of our team's performances throughout the season. We fought hard every game and never quit,” head coach Ethan Maurer said.
The girls had some tough competition out on the field, but the schools they had the most trouble with were Carmel (9-0) and North Central (7-0).
“Our most challenging schools have been against two top 25 teams in the country - Carmel and North Central. They were skilled, intelligent, and fast. These games provided a great experience for our team,” Maurer said.
The team demonstrated very good sportsmanship, even though against those two teams they did not pull out a win.
The girls practiced very hard for game days, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done for the team to be in a position that they want to be in.
“The team can work on improving their game in their free time, much like how I will be improving my coaching in my free time. We could all use some extra work in this area in order to become our best,” Maurer said.
Reminding them that not every girl is good at something once they start to learn it has proven useful for coaches this year.
“I want to thank every senior for their contributions to the Warriors’ soccer throughout their career, and that they will never be forgotten,” Maurer said.
The season is over and the coach is looking forward to the new season. Here is what the coach wants for new recruits.
“I look for student-athletes who are hard-working, organized, and willing to be coached. We have several young players who fit into this mold perfectly, and we are looking for more!” Soccer is a sport anyone can play, it doesn't matter if you are skilled or not. The girls have shown us that they are hard workers in practice and the game even though they don’t always put on a win,” Mauer said. “No matter your experience with soccer, it is a sport that anyone can become skilled at if they have the right work ethic and dedication.”
