To many people, prom is a significant part of high school. For some, it's a chance to look good and have a fun night with friends. For others, it's a final opportunity to be with each other before going into adulthood and into college.

This school year, Warren Central High School is hosting prom on April 27 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Indiana Roof Ballroom, at 140 W Washington St. downtown.

The theme, selected and voted on by Student Council members, is “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna. According to Student Council sponsor Jazzmine Anderson, there will be various stations for students to take fun pictures, in addition to the traditional prom photos.

“The [theme] colors that were also voted and selected by the Student Council members are white, gold and black, WCHS colors,” Anderson said. “I think that's awesome because it is our centennial year so it kind of regards back to tradition.”

This event will be senior Terajana Chiles’ first, and last, time at prom. She described her dress as old-fashioned from the 1800s or 1900s. She does not have a date for prom but will be attending with her friends.

“I expect to have a good time and for there to be no drama,” Chiles said.

With this year being Warren Central’s 100th graduating class, seniors have been excited to make their own mark on the year. Senior Michael Merino said he hopes prom for the centennial year of Warren will be “one to remember.”

“I am looking forward to the music they're going to play at prom,” he said.

Regarding music, Anderson said 100.9’s B Swift will be DJing throughout the night, like he has before for Warren’s prom.

“He usually brings a special guest with him as well,” she said.

Senior London Jones is excited for good music and having fun at the dance, and she plans on attending with her friends. She said her dress is a surprise and will have to be seen on prom day.

“I’m looking forward to seeing who will win prom king and queen, ” Jones said.

Tickets for the event are being sold through April 18 in the East Cafeteria for $60 per person. Dinner is included in that ticket price. According to Anderson, dinner will be catered professionally with a three-course gourmet meal, and themed non-alcoholic drinks will also be available.

In order to attend prom, students must be in good standing with the school, and they cannot have more than 10 absences and tardies, starting back on Feb. 5.
